In the insurance sector, women make up around 60% of the workforce. [1] But for every person, a successful insurance profession is unique. Meet Angela Rimgaila and Starr Taybron, two female IAT team members with diverse origins who have each achieved success in the insurance industry.
Angela Rimgaila was interested in the idea of a career where she could develop her professional network, find leadership possibilities, and get a stable employment after graduation as a college student in the midst of the Great Recession of 2008. Angela decided to major in risk management and insurance and join Gamma Iota Sigma, the professional fraternity of the insurance sector because Temple University’s insurance school boasted a 100% job placement rate. She currently holds the position of Assistant Vice President of Management Liability at IAT.
I was able to establish a network in the sector at an early age because of the numerous professional organizations and networking groups, according to Rimgaila. “The insurance industry is crucial to the economy. It keeps the world turning and is here to stay. It’s reassuring to know that I’ll always have a job. Although the profession has a negative reputation, we help people survive tough moments in life and keep them working.
Angela was recognized as a Rising Star in 2022 by Insurance Business America, which honors young professionals under the age of 35 who are making a mark in the field.
During her stay at Michigan State, Starr Taybron also looked for a job with prospects for leadership. Taybron started her career in law enforcement with the U.S. Marshals after graduating from college, and at the age of 27, she was promoted to Chief Probation and Parole Officer. When most police officers would have retired at the height of their careers, Taybron opted to join IAT’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) as an investigator. She then served as the unit’s AVP and was recognized by Business Insurance, which honors the future leaders of the insurance industry, as a Break-Out Award Winner in 2019. Taybron currently serves as the Vice President of Operations for Auto/Casualty.

I actively looked into those who were committing theft, arson, and insurance fraud, and I enjoy being able to uphold the faith placed in us by the people we are tasked with protecting. “The insurance sector has something to satisfy every enthusiasm. Starting in the insurance industry gives you the opportunity to see numerous divisions and job roles, which can maintain your interest in a long-term path for advancement. There is always room for innovation in the insurance industry.
